The Tuesday night before Thanksgiving, Nathan and I had signed up for the Thanksgiving Dinner at our church in Alexandria. Now, we have been to many dinners before (there and other places) but I realized that this dinner was something extra special when I found out that Eli and Tyler wouldn't be eating with us but would be in their own class having a special night. In fact, no children under first grade would be in the room. When Nathan and I were getting ready and he came out dressed in blue jeans, I mentioned that he might need to change since "H'orderves" were scheduled to start first. Not appetizers, h'orderves! He rolled his eyes (of course) but was very thankful for the suggestion when we showed up to the church! When we got there we saw people dressed in black and white uniforms (who were the cooks/caterers) and we signed in to find out we had an assigned seating chart to follow! The room was decorated beautifully with white table clothes down to the ground and color coordinated overlays that told you when you would be served. There was bread on the table (one plate we might have thought was for us but it turned out to be the communion bread, but that's another story). The tables were beautiful with flowers, several kinds of cheesecakes and candles. There was also several forks for each person; try explaining that to a ten year old boy. Yeah. We weren't in Kansas, I mean Tennessee anymore!
The night was wonderful, as expected and Nathan and I felt like we had signed up for a fancy restaurant or something! Zachary sat with us at the table and even knew the other little boy sitting next to him. We did see a lot of friends there too. Plus, Eli and Tyler were really excited to tell us about their Thanksgiving dinner/party that they experienced as well!
