On Saturday night, July 12th we packed up and headed to the waterfront park in Alexandria for the city's birthday celebration. I had to work on the 4th of July so the kids didn't get to see any fireworks, which I was really bummed about. But then I found out that the weekend after the 4th the city held a party with fireworks to celebrate it's birthday too. But of course, I again had to work. But one of the girls on the unit was talking to me about it and offered to work the first four hours of my shift so we all could go out and celebrate! Whoo-hoo! So we took blankets and snacks and had a great time. The city mayor also gave a speech and then handed out free cupcakes to everyone for the "birthday cake!" The boys had so much fun running around and playing and then the firework show was AWESOME! Afterwards, we all hopped in the car and they took me into work! It was so much fun and I am so thankful for the opportunity to experience it!
